Thanks to all that messaged me.
So sorry to hear about your loss Nairu... I have never had a horse to loose, but lost our baby dog (18 months) last year and I cried for weeks. Even though the loss feels so immense at the moment, believe me it does start to lighten, never goes but it does lift.
Well, as for my Lily (I am just clearing out my digital camera to get some photos - I need help to load them on to the computer tho!).. we are going slowly slowly. As I said in a previous message this is all new to me, I love animals and do believe that all of our creatures on our 12 acres are horribly spoilt so am just going with my instincts at this stage.
She has started to be very naughty with getting caught. I just calmly follow her around the paddock and eventually when she finds me right in front of her she will stop and allow me to put her halter on. Today we went for a walk in the adjoining paddock, she was VERY nervy and when she saw our alpacas (we have 5) in the next paddock became very distressed. I made her stop and look at them before allowing her to go back to her paddock. I am thinking that we will do that everyday until it becomes not such a big deal (have I got that right?).
All I am doing with her is spending time, walking around the paddock with her on her lead while she eats and then I sit under a big tree and let her eat to the length of the rope and eventually she will come over and stand near me, sniffing my clothes and today had a nibble on my hair. I have my brush there and brush her face when she brings it down to me - I am just hoping that this is all in the right direction. Also what eat treats do you recommend? - she doesn't like carrots or apples, bread is ho hum, I would love to have something that she loves.
Sorry for the long post - I am so glad that I have found you all and know that with some help Lily is going to become one big huge baby in a few months.
My intentions with her is to have a horse to ride on neighbouring farms and around the back roads. Showing doesn't interest me - mainly due to the cost.
Thanks for listening to my rave... PLEASE tell me if they are too long.
Bindi.
