I'm passing this on for a friend.
There are 6 horses in Cheboygan that are being given away to good homes. These horses have not been abused or neglected, but with the shortage of hay this past year and the current prices for buying hay, the owner can no longer afford to keep them. If you or anybody you know is able to help, the contact information is:
Marie Bartlett (owns Cheboygan Used Books)
231-627-1183
Sadly, I'm sure that we will be seeing a lot more of these types of situations. Please pass this along to all the reliable horse people that you know. Even if they aren't able to take another one on, maybe they know of someone who could.

There is an active curly rescue. A friend just took in an "extreme" curly that was being mistreated, more through owner lack of knowledge but still is neglect. As in this colt has not seen another horse since he was 6 mos old, which wouldn't be so bad, however he has also never had hay since being with the owner and is now 4 yrs old. They gave him a bit of grain and just had a pasture lot for him so in the winter of course he was thin and is a bit stunted unfortunately. She contacted the rescue with a few questions. They were very helpful for her and were/are helping her place the colt into a new home once he is ready (she won't be ready to place him till he gets back up to weight and is gelded).
