OK, really it is "jogging speed", but still, the speed and duration are improving. I do several minutes at 5.2 mph.
I am doing the "walk to run" program from Health magazine's "Girls Gotta Move". Now that I am allowed to run short distances on padded surfaces, my stress level is much better.
So, right now it is slightly painful as I rebuild my running legs, but I am on week 3 and running 25 minutes. By the time I finish with a walking warmup and cooldown, as well as the 2 minute walk breaks interspersed, it is 45 minutes on the treadmill. Five more weeks, and I should be able to jog for a half hour straight.
Then the speed starts coming! My goal is to be able to do 1.5 miles in less than 14 minutes when I get to my Air Force physical fitness test in Oct.

Way to go! Thing I've found about running is just how addictive it is. Last year I needed to lose weight - too much sitting on the job. I forced myself to follow through and dropped 40 lbs. I'm down to 110lbs now. I actually get agitated if I miss my lunch time walks.
You'll be there in no time!
