any of you use an exercise ball chair (like this one?) I have terrible posture and mushy core muscles (e.g. soup sandwich) and am thinking about one of these to help develop both. Apparently you have to work up to sitting on the ball chair for long periods of time - it is reportedly exhausting initially.

No - but it looks intriguing! I know some people just sit on those balls at work. That's the ball I have at home that I need to do more excersises on!

How does it work? I guess you can't slouch in that chair! Maybe just sitting up straight is the thing.

OMG - I forgot.....I have a hilarious "Soup Sandwich" story! At my lesson yesterday I was getting SOOOOOO tired at the canter. So I literally started yelling at myself in my head, "DON'T BE A SOUP SANDWICH! THIS IS WHAT HE WAS TALKING ABOUT! YOU CAN DO THIS! DON'T BE A SOUP SANDWICH"!!!! It worked.......and it also made me kind of laugh at myself which has to be good too.

ahahah, windy, you crack me up. soup sandwich indeed.
i got one of those exercise balls for Xmas, and damn that thing is great. go to the fitness store, and read the labels, because you get a different size for how tall you are (to wit, tim's is like the size of a clydesdale barrel) and sit on it for work. i wish i could bring mine in. you will engage your core while sitting. a good thing. however, try a couple of videos. i also just got the "riders excercise handbook" or some such there are GREAT exercises in that. ow. ow. ow.....

Ive always just sat on the ball...i didnt have the fancy chair contraption:) right now my ball is airless and i lost my pump!

I'm so psyched! My location in my office got moved down by the CEO's office. His asst. got him a ball that he never uses so I've adopted it! It's totally too big for me but I have a box to put my feet on, but it actually feels more horse like when I straddle it (imagine if you will, me trying t make sure I hear footsteps coming down the carpeted hall to switch out of straddle position when people walk by me, lol!!!)

i also have used the physio ball to sit on at my desk (no chair attachment), for many years now. like serafina mentioned, you have to get the right size for your height. i am 5-9 and use an 85cm ball. if you are shorter, you will need a smaller ball. the key is to make sure your knees are bent at a 90 degree angle. i started using it because i work long hours at my desk, and my back and hips were bothering me and tight. the ball lets me bounce around if i want to, and stretch and move more, rather than a chair. and as another poster mentioned, it DOES take some time to get used to it. i would say at least the first few weeks you may not be able to sit on it for more than 4 hours at a time... at least for me that is how it was. pros and cons of the chair pictured. a pro would be if you don't have natural balance, the chair would help you not roll over and go boom. the con is you won't get all the benefits of being able to move your body around on it to stretch and loosen your hips... if that is what you are after. but all in all, i think any ball to sit on, in the long run, is better than any regular desk chair here is the website i think you were looking at. the black ball looks uber cool!!! and i like that they give you exercises to do on the chair too www.isokineticsinc.com/product/gm_6106002rtl
