I've seen that there's a book about Pilates for Riders. My question - Does it involve the shoulder at all? I know it develops core muscles but I can't use my right shoulder right now. But I want to keep in shape while I'm not riding so I'm not the Sta-Puffed Marshmallow Woman when I get back on! Anyone teach this or practice it? My bf teaches Yoga but I have to use my shoulder for that. He said he would try to come up with some alternate exercises though. Thanks for any info! Loki

I love Pilates, and have to be careful about my neck since the surgery. Crunches etc put too much strain on it. If you can afford to I suggest some private sessions with a certified instructor to get you started. They have a lot of tools to help work the core muscles but avoid straining previous injuries. I can highly recommend pilates!

A lot of the Pilates exercises target core muscles (i.e, abdominal) so there is a lot you can do that does not involve the shoulder. You could get a DVD at your local library, that would give you a better idea.

You could look into T-Tapp as well. It's very easy on your body, but is supposed to be super effective. I just started to try and get back into doing the one DVD I have. It's all floor/abdominal work. The website is something like t-tapp.com. they have some exercises on the site with explanations.
