I have no idea how many people are really showing up here for T-giving and I don't really have the extra money to go all out so I'm trying to peruse what I have and see what I can come up with using many of the items I have on hand.
Of course I'll get a turkey a few staples too.
Can some sort of yummy brown rice thingy go with?
And isn't there some website where you can plug in ingredients and they give you recipe ideas? Or did I dream that?

I'll look at that. I found the same nine million recipes but it was taking so long to get to them an d get THROUGH them that I thought I'd see if anyone had anything they used regularly.
Thanks Kim!!

Mememe.... I just love this recipe - taken from the original Moosewood cookbook.
Cauliflower Marranca
1 lb Mushrooms, sliced 1 large onion chopped
Saute these two ingredients in butter with juice of 1 lemon
1 large head califlower, in flower pieces - saute with 3 cloves, crushed garlic, basil, salt & pepper.
3 cups cooked brown rice, salted & buttered.
2 1/2 cups of grated cheese - I love a mixture of colby and mozzerella. (if being truely vege make sure the rennet is a vege one, can't be adding lil calves tummys to your recipe!!!
Combine Everything Bake, covered, 1/2 hour at 350 degrees
I have another one somewhere.... will hunt it out for you.
I also add pistachios to this after cooking, just scatter them over the top.... oh yum, I am going to have to make this for dinner this week now.... I haven't had it for a wee bit.

I lied with that one above. I don't put pistachios on that one, it is this one that gets the pistachio treatment.
Brown Rice Risotto
2 onions, sliced into rings 50gm butter or 30ml oil 3 carrots, chopped 100g broccoli, chopped 2 tsp finely chopped fresh basil or 1 tsp dried 15 ml ground turmeric salt and pepper 8oz brown rice 50ml tamari 825ml vegetable stock or water 100gm pistachios
1. Heat oven to 200 C
2. Saute the onions in the butter in a saucepan for 5 minutes until soft and tender.
3. Add the carrots, celery and broccoli to the onions, together with the basil, turmeric and seasoning.
4. Stir in the brown rice and mix well. Simmer for 3 - 4 minutes, stirring occasionally.
5. Pour the tamari and stock over the mixture and transfer to an ovenproof dish.
6. Bake, covered, for 1 1/2 hours or until the rice is completely cooked.
7. Sprinkle with the pistachio nuts before serving.
