I have a fun project at work this week. One of the local high school teachers is going to Kyrgyzstan (sp?) and asked for a list of recommended books on American history, culture, etc. for grades 5-12, varying English levels. I'm enjoying building a shopping list for him, but I'm open to suggestions. Let me know if you have some must-read recommendations!

Oooh, good reading list, Filly! Any nonfiction recommendations, or books that specifically address current popular American culture? I was thinking of teen magazines, but some of those are fairly outrageous. Wish I knew more about the culture of the place he is going to visit. He will make good choices, I'm sure. I just need to generate some good recommendations from which to choose.

I'll ask our school librarian today. He's really good at this stuff.

Shelby loves the "American Girl" history series.
Don't forget "Where the Red Fern Grows"!
Let me think some more- this is fun!
