Ooooh..books! I love reading! Sorry I'm new here and I just saw this post. For Horse books gotta be Horse Heaven. Different points of view throughout the book. Some horses points of view, people involved in racing and even a terrier if I remember right puts in it's two cents throughout the book. Great read. Highly recommend it. I'm currently reading the Wheel of Time Series by Robert Jordan. Fantasy series, he's published 11 I think in the series and I had to go back and re-read so I'm on the 3rd book right now.

Hi lokilion - I'm Bara, I live in England and I'm 'tolerated' despite being a Brit and not having an Ex-Racer! I have 1 TB (who's daddy was a not-very-good racehorse, and one Warmblood.) And a new puppy who WANTS to be a race-horse.
I get lots of Ex-racers guests come to stay and ride with me when they're passing through London, and Shannon was one - she brought me Horse Heaven as a gift when she came to stay. It's great.
Enjoy yourself here on ER .. and feel free to join in our 'Rose of King's Cross' continuation story. We're busy writing the next 'Harry Potter' book. Sshhh - don't tell J K Rowling!

I liked the book, too. The characters were a hoot. I always wonder if Ms Smiley's editors are a little afraid of her, though, because while Horse Heaven was a good thing, in some passages it was a bit too much of a good thing, in my humble opinion!

If you like Horse Heaven, be sure to read Jane Smiley's autobiographical "A year at the races." She profiles in detail her soothsaying gelding and you can see a lot of the influences from her real life that made it into Horse Heaven.
