I may have mentioned it before. Particularly those of you with daughters (Niaru?)
Stunning little story. Set in the 40's/50's ... My mother gave it to me to read - I keep re-reading it.
Narrative by Cassandra - she writes it sitting with her feet in the kitchen sink, because the castle is so cold. Older sister, Rose. 'NewAge' stepmother, Topaz, who is actually rather lovable, despite her habit of communing with nature in the buff ..

Then the 'Marekins' arrive.. Cassandra falls in love with Simon... There's a wonderful passage where she has dyed herself green ... "My God, it's a ghost!" Says Simon. "No, no," responds Cassandra, "It's just that we've all been dying ... " Read on...
