Anyone read this? I just asked the library to get it in for me after the librarian recommended it.

I did like it. Vivid characters and energetic writing. You'll like it, I think. But her next book, The Mermaid's Chair--eh, not so much.

Monstrously creative storytelling, strong writing and very good character development. No gaps or slow spots and some real eye-openers. I thought it was a wonderful read.
And I totally agree with Ad. Her next effort, "The Mermaid's Chair" blew. Boring, self indulgent. Vomit.
But do read Bees.

I LOVED that book.....I still think about it and the characters even though I read it years ago. I thought it was amazing story telling and a unique story.
I'm with everybody else though on Mermaid's Chair (which I'm sure I have around here if anyone is daft enough to try it). I was so excited to get it, having loved Bees and it was a real letdown. Almost more like a romance novel than a really good story? I don't know ....its amazing to me that two stories by the same author could be such different reads style-wise.

I adored that book! It was the first one we read in our Book club and I still like Lynne, remember the main characters in it and I just love the south. I loved the language, the flow, the story line. It was fantastic and I'm sure you will plow right through it! I would have sent you my copy but one of my students seems to have hijacked it from my classroom.
