Such a sad event happened last night. A horse that I used to gallop, Gambling Rent, broke both front legs last night in the first race on a sealed muddy track. He went down, so did his rider, Jay Conklin. Gambling Rent was euthanized and his rider is in the hospital with a broken back, ribs, and punctured right lung. After the 4th race last night, they canceled the rest of the races due to poor track conditions! Thanks god! This horse has made over $100k lifetime, but since had been running well at the $2k claiming level race. I knew it was just a matter of time, the horse was really crippled and the poor track just was too much for him last night. RIP Gambling Rent! Lots and lots of prayers needed for Jay. He isn't as young as he was and needs all the jingles for a fast recovery! I hope he will recover enough to return!

Whoever ran that horse needs to be shot. Whenever they seal a track, if I've got a horse running with even a smidgen of a problem I'll do anything to scratch. Literally anything. It's bad enough having to pony on a sealed track- much less race on it.
Poor guy and definitley hoping for Jay.

What's a sealed track?
I hate to hear when horses break down racing. Ugh. Jingles for the jockey.

Niaru - Whenever you have enough rain fall to make a mess, the trackers come out and pack down the dirt on the track so tight so that the water will just stay on the surface instead of sink deep in the dirt and create a huge muddy mess and cause soft spots. When they do that though, its like running on concret. Its super super hard and not good for sound horses let alone horses with issues.
