We had two maidens win this week. It was pretty exciting. First was "She Be Da Captain." She's a four year olf mare with only a handful of starts. She's the one we thought had EPSM. We've just changed how we manage her a bit. She usually breaks slow out of the gate, trails the field and then makes a big run down the stretch (she runs distance). This time she broke sharp, went to the front and never looked back! She sat second the whole race and then blew by the leader to win by almost four lengths.
The other baby is "John's Burger." He won Maiden Special Weight last night. It was his third start and he's a three year old. It was really exctigin for us because we've been bringing him along slowly and he's just such a green guy. We ran him twice at Presque Isle but he didn't really have a clue what he was doing. Last night he looked like an old pro. He sat off the pace (it was 5 1/2 furlongs) and at the top of the lane he lower his body to the ground and dug in passing the leaders who were dualing. He pinned his ears the whole way until he passed them. Then he let off a little like, okay...I passed them...now what?" It was so exciting! I'm so proud of the little stinker. He reminds us all of Hassledontheboarder with his looks and disposition. I hope he can prove to be just as nice of a runner!

I'll have to add them to my VS. I still watch the races and like to keep track. She Be Da Captain is a bit of a mouthful I think I'd call her Sheba for a barn name. John's Burger - what were they thinking?
