Hi, I am new to posting on the boards although I read them all the time. I want to become a thoroughbred racehorse trainer. I have never been directly involved in racing although study, watch and read about it every chance I can. I know that sounds a bit crazy but it is something that I have always wanted to do. I have been around horses all of my life. I am a B Pony Clubber, ride three day eventing and have trained horses coming off the track. I guess I was wondering if anybody knows the best way to get into the industry. I live in WA and am pretty close to Emerald Downs. I would like any information I can get...Thank you, Marney

I would hook up with a trainer at the track, get any job you can get: grooming, hot walking horses, anything. Learn as much as you can from that trainer and then you can move up to an Ass. trainer and go from there. Do try and find a respectable trainer one whos knows what they are doing and learn about medications, how to treat minor common leg problems without the vets injecting all the time, etc. Also, start networking and getting to know owners so when you are ready to be a trainer you can start to build up a clinital. Good luck and have tons of fun!
