I don't know how many follow him, he's one of my favorites and was my pick during his TC run. Apparently they've run out of patience in Japan trying to breed him. Hopefully they'll find him a good place to reside back here. I'd personally love to see one of his offspring take a shot at the TC but I don't know if that will ever happen. I still love his wire to wire run in the Derby! I know the race is old news, but the article below is new www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQIKY41ZCI4breeding.bloodhorse.com/viewstory.asp?id=39675nick

I have good news for you - look what was in a recent communication from Old Friends (www.oldfriendsequine.org)
We've received many inquiries about the current status of War Emblem at Shadai Stallion Stud in Japan. According to the Blood-horse, the 2002 Kentucky Derby and Preakness winning son of Our Emblem, is being retired from stud duty. Despite the best efforts of the international racing community, War Emblem was clearly more successful on the race track than in the breeding shed. For the past many months, we have been in contact with Mr. Yoshida through our Japanese representative, Megumi Igarashi concerning War Emblem's future. We are deeply grateful to Mr. Yoshida for his support of Old Friends. He even sent us four of War Emblem's shoes to auction off to raise money for Old Friends (The first one will be auctioned on Saturday at our annual Old Friends Homecoming).
We hope that Old Friends is in War Emblem's future. We would love to share this great American racehorse with his fans. He could even become an additional symbol of cooperation between Old Friends retirement and our Japanese friends. We'll keep you posted.
Michael.

It will be interesting to see. He's got about 30 foals on the ground, I believe, and I think most are 2 yr olds.
I also recall that WE could be a tough horse. Baffert was quoted as saying that he was a "hateful" horse. And does anyone remember watching the coverage before the Belmont? Katie Couric was interviewing Baffert outside WE's stall, and Baffert kept trying to move her away from the door, saying repeatedly that he bites, he bites. And a minute later, as they were talking, WE snaked his head out of the door and just missed taking her arm off by a whisker.
I was a fan of his too - saw him win his prep at Hawthorne and saw him in the BC that was held at Arlington that year. He is a beautiful horse. If he's not a true black, then he has about 3 brown hairs.
