See, I didn't bet this time and he wins. It's my fault Curlin won't get the Triple Crown, because I bet on him for the Derby. That's it, no more betting for me. I jinx 'em. I'll tell you that's some horse! Even with the Triple Crown out of the picture, the Belmont is gonna be some race!

that upset me SO bad!! SS's jockey seemed to get a little comfortable and then looked over his shoulder, saw Curlin, and had an "oh sh**" moment- like 3 strides too late.... I think SS could have done it... DARNIT will we ever have a T.C. winner again?

Samantha after watching at least a dozen reruns of the race, I have to agree whole heartedly with you.

Did anyone else watch the preliminary races on ESPN? A horse, Mend the Fences, in the Dixie Stakes went down and had to be euthanized. He dislocated a fetlock joint then it compound fractured. :cryy: :cryy: :cryy: :cryy:

I saw it. Horrible accident. Einstein's jocky jumped off mid race to avoid a certain disaster for Einstein. For awhile the horse was racing loose. You just knew it wasn't any good for the horse on the ground. Einstein was favored too.

On a happy note though, one of the preliminary Stakes Races has been renamed "The Barbaro Stakes". The horse that won it is a Michael Matz trained horse. He came down from his box in the stands with tears in his eyes. The horse was Cherlocko, I may have the spelling wrong, but it was something like that.

Einstein's jockey was Robby Alborado, the guy who rode Curlin in the Preakness. That had to be a scary moment for him and Curlin's trainer. I don't think he jumped off so much as when his horse jumped the fallen horse there was no way he was going to stay on. Both jockey's were very lucky in that incident. It's sad that Mending Fences didn't make it.

I saw the race and saw Mending Fences go down too, not a pleasant thing to watch. He was such a beautiful horse too.

He came down from his box in the stands with tears in his eyes. The horse was Cherlocko, I may have the spelling wrong, but it was something like that. The horse was Chelokee. On the other hand, I'm really disappointed that they renamed the Sir Barton, even if it was for Barbaro. Sir Barton was a legend... Barbaro was special, but... eh. I think I'm in the minority on this one. The Mending Fences injury was just awful. Though it might be a blessing (a sad one) that there was no ambiguity with the injury. The Preakness was amazing. After watching the Dixie, it was like a complete 360 from the worst of racing to the absolute best... I was hoping for SS, but I LOVE a photo finish like that! I wonder how it would have ended if SS hadn't eased up. I hope those two meet again!
