I never have had a favorite going into the derby, for me there is just too many options and I get overwhelmed. However, the KY derby winner is usually my favorite going into the Preakness. I normally dont watch any of the derby prep races. In fact, the only races I watch are the triple crown races. Is it just me or has anyone noticed the D Wayne Lukas and Bob Baffert are not in the list of contenders???

Stormello is handsome! But, my money's on Street Sense. I usually play a few exactas that never pan out. My best Derby win was with a $2 bet on Giacamo to show in 2005. I think it paid about $50, which was about enough to cover the cost of the mint juleps hubby and I were drinking all afternoon. ;D

Street Sense and his brother (Stormello? Or is his brother not running now?) are my favorites, because they have the same granddaddy as Luther does. I think they're all gorgeous though!

I'm officially in Hard Spun's camp. He's bred to run all day and he tore it up at Churchill today, turning in a bullet 57 and change work that was two seconds faster than the next fastest. Word is he cooled out by the time he got back to the barn. He's by Danzig (would this be his last crop?) out of a runs-forever Turkoman mare.

I'll probably watch the Derby, but I may not be able to watch it with my eyes open after last years Derby. My eyes might be closed, but I'll hear what's going on. The images from 2006 are still vivid in my mind's eye.
Modified to add: It's now 10:40am. I just heard on XM Satellite Radio that Cobalt Blue has been scratched from the Derby and that between the 6th and 7th race a Memorial Tribute is going to be made to Barbaro. I was going to have a box of tissues on hand anyway, now I'll need a case of them!!

Wow Julia - Stormello IS gorgeous! That's my fav shade of chestnut, too! I have to root for the 30-1 shot ( at the moment) Storm in May.... only cause of his name - he's S.MAY!!!! hahaha
Anyhow, he was beat by Curlin in the Arkansas Derby, so he's not gonna win. But he's a nice little Storm Cat grandson, and he only has vision in one eye. But he races fine. He lost vision as a baby only days old when he got an ulcerated cornea. He ran the AK Derby totally blind because his GOOD eye got covered in mud! And he still got second.

Danzig has a last crop of 2005 foals, but only 18. I'd say Hard Spun is his best shot.

Okay, I just spent the last couple hours trying to figure out my choices. I've come down to: Great Hunter Circular Quay Street Sense With my long shot bet on Sedgefield. I've got this nagging feeling about him. I'm no expert and half the time I go on how the horse looks ;D Good thing I don't bet nick
