August 19, 2006 Holborn Hanover, fresh off his 1:46.4 World Record performance in last weekend's U.S. Pacing Championship at the Meadowlands, came up with an electrifying track record performance of 1:48.1 earlier tonight at Balmoral Park in the $35,000 American National for older pacing horses & geldings. The 1:48.1 was a full second faster than the former record of 1:49.1, which was held by Pacific Playboy (2005), Fresh Ingredient (2002) and Major Blur (2000). Maltese Artist, in rein to Tim Tetrick, put up the first fraction of :27.1 in tonight's elimination before yielding to Ponder and Peter Wrenn, who took the field to the half in 54-seconds. Ponder was pressed to the third station in 1:20.3 by Holborn Hanover and George Brennan, who used a :27.1 final quarter to seal the deal in a time of 1:48.1 Ponder and Maltese Artist dead-heated for second while Stonebridge Regal (4th) and Leading X Ample (5th) picked up the final two cheques. He Wants It All (6th), Quik Pulse Mindale (7th), Mypanmar (8th) and Shu Hanover (9th) also earned the right to advance to next Saturday's $203,000 final, where they'll be joined by Lis Mara, who earned a bye into the final based on the fact that he was the richest 2006 performer entered in this year's American National. As for Holborn Hanover, who is trained by Brett Robinson, he is now a 19-time winner with earnings of $1,705,373 for partners John Fielding of Toronto and the Canamerica Capital Corp. of Milton.
