I saw this in our local morning paper just a few minutes ago. They are saying how unrealistic to think set-backs wouldn't occur.

This is pretty bad. When i was up at NBC a case had similar complications and it was horrible. Problems like this just snowball and eventually the horse had to be euthanized(unfortunatly it should have been euthanized way before it actually was). I'm thinking the worst here.

I hope he'll pull through and they can keep him happy and pain free. Poor horse has been through so much in 3 short years.

HeartSoBold and Others, I can not help but think that the best case scenario for Barbaro would be to have euthanized him when he got off the horse ambulance. I honestly do not think that my thoughts are cruel or inhumane, but with the injury Barbaro sus- tained the Professionals knew what they were faced with. Of course, any horse deserves a chance at recovery, but broken bones in a horse's leg are so difficult to repair. His bones were broken completely into pieces. Has anyone ever successfully brought a horse back from such drastic injury??
I LOVE Barbaro as everyone else does, I just wish he wasn't in dire straits!!

I am really sad to hear of his turn for the worse. I hope whatever happens he is soon pain free and can return to being a normal horse again. I lit a candle for him on this site it really made me feel better amazing how many people love this horse and are pulling for him. www.gratefulness.org/candles/candles.cfm?l=eng&gi=barba

Hoping for him and all that come after that he beats it.
I worried when I heard last week of all the changes and the elevated temp. Wish it hadn't turned out to be so.

Deb, I completely understand where you're coming from. It's hard to know how he is holding up mentally based on reports...you can't tell if its the truth. I just hope decisions are made with his well being in mind.
He is always in my thoughts.

I don't know what's right or wrong, but I am pulling for him to make it through this as best as possible. The fact that his owners and trainer are visiting him daily, tells me that this is more than a financial decision on their part. Jingles Barbaro.

Hoping that he pulls through this. I somewhat agree with Deb about maybe he should have been euthanized right from the get-go. (As horrible as it sounds) But how much of a normal life is this horse going to have? Heather I lit a candle for Barbaro! Cool site.

Just wanted to add that on Tim Woolley's racing site is says that ESPN news at 4 o'clock will have an update. Update 191: ESPN's tentative schedule for today. Jeannine Edwards sent me an e-mail which included the following: right now i am going live on espn news around 4pm, live on sportscenter somewhere between 6-7pm, and then a taped report for the 11 and overnight shows. www.timwoolleyracing.com/news/2006/07/barbaro_updates_2.php

I also saw somewhere that the Jackson's continue to visit him twice a day. You know they are emotionally involved too and I think that is so wonderful.
We're hoping for the best here Barbaro and I know you'll pull through!
