Racetrack in Regina?
June 21, 2006
A Toronto company and standardbred horsemen in Saskatchewan are in discussions to develop a racetrack and casino in Regina, Sask.,Trot Insider has learned.
Currently there is no permanent racetrack in Saskatchewan, and races are held over 24 days in Craven, Saskatoon and Yorkton.
"It would benefit racing in Saskatchewan because the standardbreds would have a permanent home," said Alvey Halbgenwachs, president of the Saskatchewan Standardbred Horseman's Association.
The Saskatchewan Standardbred Horsemen's Association signed a letter of intent with MBC Racing to develop the project in March. In a press release this morning, K-Tronic International Corp. announced it had agreed to buy the exclusive development rights from MBC.
K-Tronic's President and CEO is John Simmonds, who is also the chairman and director of TrackPower, the company that re-developed Tioga Downs in Tioga, New York.
Halbgenwachs said there are no concrete plans at the moment, but that he would be speaking with K-Tronic within the next few days.

I DO hope this happens, we are all over the map, with races this weekend 4 HOURS drive away. Not worth getting horses ready for three weekends there, then a monthish break and another 2-3 weekends, then another long break for 10 more days. IF this comes to pass, will have a proper meet, in one place, and I can pick up where I left off, and perhaps pick up a few pay horses
