The 2006 season didn't start out very well for Canada's Horse of the Year from 2005, Admirals Express, but things are starting to look up for the 12-year-old son of Admirals Galley.
The 'Grey Gladiator', as he's affectionately known in the business, marched to his second straight Saturday night score at Woodbine Racetrack for trainer Mike Hales, who watched his star student go 0-for-13 to start the season.
Paul MacDonell had the gritty gelding on the lead every step of the mile through fractions of :26.1, :54.1 and 1:22.1 before tacking on a final quarter in :27.1 en route to his 6 1/2-length romp in a time of 1:49.2.
The victory was the 70th lifetime win for the great grey, who now sports career earnings of $1,877,540 for Gary and Laurel Gust of Cedar Springs and Ed and Cheryl Sayfie of Rockford, Michigan.
The 1:49.2 clocking was the 12th sub-1:50 win for Admirals Express, who sports more sub-1:50 wins than any other pacer in harness racing history.
