When he was pulled up, he was running, holding is right hind up in the air I see them taking him off in an equine ambulance now. Vet says it's his right hind ankle

I don't know if it was from his early break or if it happened after. Poor boy kept lifting his hind leg off the ground.

I'm so stunned by what I saw!! That right hind foot was flopping freely. I'm literally sick to my stomach. His career is definitely over. Let's all pray he can be saved.

Associated Press said: " Thoroughbreds have broken down in the past in big races: In the 1993 Preakness, Union City broke down and was euthanized; in the 1999 Belmont Stakes, with Charismatic trying to win the Triple Crown, he was pulled up while finishing third with a fractured ankle; Go For Wand broke down in the stretch of the 1990 Breeders' Cup Distaff and was euthanized; and in 1975, the great Ruffian broke down in a match race with Foolish Pleasure. She was operated on, but was later euthanized." All of those horses had front leg injuries. Does that make a difference (I'm hopingit does)? I'm hoping that will make a difference. AP quoted the vet as saying that "this is a life threatening injury". hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/R/RAC_TC1_PREAKNESS?SITE=TXCLU&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&SECTION=HOMEI have to post a warning to anyone who may look up these injuries or horses...I ignored the warnings on Go For Wands site that stated the photo's were graphic...I wish I'd not seen those pictures. I'm sick to my stomach now.

I'm hoping he makes a full, complete recovery that can allow him to live a happy life. Something seemed wrong to me with him when they were leading him out to be saddled and then in the post parade. I know you want the horse to be lively, but it just didn't fit how he was at other races or everything that's been said about him. He always seemed to be so calm throughout all the craziness, except some saddling issues of course.
Good news that the surgery went well, but now the real difficulty (that most people have little understanding of) is to keep him quiet, so it heals. I'm sure all of us with ex-racers know just how difficult that can be.
