Don Monkman Jr's magic number was "2" in his quest to reach the 2,500-win plateau going into Saturday afternoon's card at Northlands Park and the veteran reinsman had no problem hitting his target.
The 55-year-old Edmonton, AB, resident bagged two winners early on the program and fittingly he celebrated the wins with a pair of pacers from his own stable.
He notched his first win of the day with Stiletto Hall, who rallied from off the pace for a 1:58 decision for Monkman and partners Frances Byrne and the Don Byrne Stable 2004 Inc. of Edmonton, AB.
Three races later Monkman registered the milestone win with 11-year-old veteran Andos Soky N, who powered to a seven and three quarter-length score in 2:01.2 for owner Gordon Stickler of Coquitlam, BC.
Monkman has worked with some very nice over the course of his career including the likes of E Jay Bullet (1:54.1 - $403,114), Baron Storm (1:55.2 - $266,083) and last year's Primary Stake winner, Poor Ball Hall (1:57 - $35,731). Congratulations to Don Monkman Jr on joining the 2,500-win club and best of luck on achieving the next 2,500!
