Owned by Laurel & Gary Gust and Cheryl and Ed Sayfie of Michigan, the 10 year-old son of Admirals Galley is the sport's leading sub-1:50 winner of all time and the world's fastest grey Standardbred with a mark of 1:48.2. The 27 year-old enjoyed an unprecedented season in 2005, eclipsing the national dash winning title with more than 692 wins in Canada while driving horses to earnings in excess of $8.2 million, including handling the driving assignment for O'Brien Award nominee American Ideal.
Also a first-time nominee, 25 year-old Casie Coleman, trainer of American Ideal, became Canada’s first female to receive an O’Brien Award as Trainer of the Year. The native of British Columbia, who relocated to Ontario in 2000, celebrated a career year in 2005, training 196 winners and horses to $2.4 million in earnings.

Millionaire Peaceful Way, the richest Ontario-bred trotter of all time with over $2.4 million in earnings, took home her third consecutive O'Brien Award. The daughter of Angus Hall enjoyed a near perfect season, winning nine of 10 races for over $737,000 in earnings. Trevor Ritchie drove her in all 10 season starts.
The third time was a charm for New Brunswick native Gilles Barrieau, who received the O’Brien Award of Horsemanship. It was the third time in three years that Barrieau was nominated for this honour. He dominated the Maritime racing scene again in 2005, and was also the nation’s leading driver in the Universal Driving Rating System and Canada's leading trainer in the Universal Training Rating System.
