American Ideal Smashes World Record
Oct 1 American Ideal was well within himself today as he smashed the world record for three-year-old pacing colts in a breath taking performance of 1:47.4 in his $140,800 division of the Bluegrass Series at the Red Mile.
With Village Jolt to the inside pushing American Ideal to the quarter in :25.4, he then paced an amazing :53, 1:20.2 and a :27.2 last quarter to finish his mile in 1:47.4 with no urging from driver Mark MacDonald. Thin Blue Line (Browning Blue Chip) finished second with Up Front Tornado (Dragon Again) taking third spot.
“I’ve learned that you don’t shut him down because you run the chance of choking him,” said MacDonald after the World Record performance. “Today’s race was very comparable of the move in the Confederation Cup. He was awesome.”
“I knew he was capable of doing it,” said trainer Casie Coleman. “I didn’t train him this week because it was six days out and he’s just an amazing colt.”
A very excited co-owner Mac Nichol said, “I was trembling in the winner’s circle. There will definitely be drinking in Alberta tonight.”
The three-year-old son of Western Ideal-Lifetime Success now has nine wins in 18 starts and lifetime earnings of $647,600 for owners Nichol of St. Albert, Alberta and Brittany Farms of Versailles, Kentucky.
The next stop for American Ideal will be the Breeders Crown and MacDonald has the drive. “The owners have decided I get along well with him so I will stay with him. It’s nothing more than that.”
When leaving the winner’s circle, American Ideal and his connections received a well deserved standing ovation from the fans.
