American Ideal Amazing August 21, 2005 With a performance that should stamp him as one of the top three-year-olds in North America, American Ideal and Mark MacDonald demolished eight other three-year-old pacers to take the $459,000 Confederation Cup in a track record 1:50.3. Four pacers left hard but John Campbell had Cams Fool on the lead at the first quarter in :26, and faced immediate pressure from Luc Ouellette and Astronomical. MacDonald followed their cover up to the half-mile reached in :54.4. As they rounded the turn past the half, American Ideal tipped three-wide and flashed some amazing speed to clear and open up nearly five lengths on the field by the three-quarter mark, hit in 1:22.4. From there, it was just a race against the clock as American Ideal turned in a 27.4 final quarter to trip the timer in 1:50.3, the fastest mile ever paced over the Dundas half-mile oval. American Ideal races for Mac Nichol of St. Albert, Alberta and Brittany Farms of Versailles, Kentucky. Trained by Casie Coleman, the Western Ideal - Lifetime Success colt now boasts six wins and nearly $500,000 in his 2005 campaign. All Over The Place, drawn by lot as one of the fifth place elim finishers, finished second. Lis Mara, the winner of the first Cup elim, finished third.
