My heart was in my throat when Affleet Alex stumbled. It looked as though there was going to be a huge disaster there for a second. What a terrific horse to pick himself up and go on to win so bravely. And you've got to give Giacomo credit for coming third.

Very scary. Giacomo could have used a better trip. I'm really feeling he's highly underrated.

WOW, what a race!! Both horse and jockey are amazing athletes to have recovered so gracefully from that stumble. AA really had another gear didn't he? Man, when he starting making his move, he just threw in the after burners. niaru, you might be able to catch it again on the evening news. I'm certain they'll at least play the clip of AA stumbling. Or, they might post the video on www.preakness.com in a few days. They have a copy of the 2004 race, leads me to believe they'll eventually add today's.

I don't really like Giacomo much, not to take anything away from his Derby win, but I wasn't betting on him today. I actually bet on Scrappy T to Place, I have to go see how I did, I really like that horse!
So, if Scrappy T goes onto the Belmont, I'll be torn, Buszzard's Bay will be running in the Belmon and if Scrappy T does too, maybe I'll just have to be on them both!
Oh, and I totally though Afleet Alex broke down, but when they replayed it, Scrappy T totally veered into him and he stumbled, I couldn't believe he got back up and took off again, he ran an amazing race!

It was hard for us to see what happened when they came around the turn and he stumbled. We thought for sure there was going to be an inquiry. Everyone around me (and myself included) was screaming for Scrappy T. That big guy broke out front and stayed. I like him. I placed a few bets for other people and my mom won the trifecta. That was a pretty nice payout.
Now, what was scary was the drunks leaving the infield after the race. Unfortunately we had parked in the lot where most of the infield people parked. Made for a very interesting evening.

I found a replay of the race here www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7928696/What happened is that Scrappy T's jockey hit him lefthanded, which caused the horse to veer wide in the turn, RIGHT in Alex's path. SCARY!!! I just can't believe that 1) he recovered and 2) he went on to WIN!!! His jockey was completely out of the saddle. Now there are people who say that Scrappy T's jockey was at fault, that he may have done that on purpose to block Alex (NOT to make him stumble tho) but his horse over reacted... I don't have any opinion on this, other than it was SCARY to watch! I just hope Afleet Alex is ok...it was a HARD stumble at about 35 mph...can't be good on the legs... I love that horse. Probably because he looks just like Lulla!! Edited because I keep writing STrappy T instead of SCrappy T

Totally amazing - I have been on the Alex bandwagon since I saw him win the Ark. Derby -- that was his prep, right? There were like four on TV that day. Any-who...I just love him. SO consistent and athletic -- and that face!!!! What a gorgeous boy. Did you see the shot of him when they were saddling him in the infield. He stood stock still just looking around and was so regal looking, I was like - Oooh, watch out!! As fas as Scrappy T goes. I think he's talented but also kind of an :moon: . His trainer was saying he's a little jumpy and weavy and I don't care how fast a horse is if he doesn't have the disposition/professionalism to go with it. JMHO. Totally not the jocks fault - he hit him left and T scooted.....and kind of hopped. All I know is I love me some Afleet Alex. :boomboom:
