And my father bred him  Buzzard's Bay is by Marco Bay, my father's stallion, and he is built just like him! He was a 25 (or 30?) to 1 longshot who is all heart!
I'm kinda sad Sweet Catomine didn't win, but I am so happy for Marco's son  Go Buzzard's Bay :horsie:

I WISH I had money on him too, but I never bet unless I'm at a track, haven't been to one since I picked up Martha at Fairmount!
I'll bet on him in the Derby (if he goes) but I think he'll be another longshot. Who knows though, it is the Derby and anything can happen ;D He is my sentimental pick for sure, and how can you NOT love that face of his ;D

Oooo, I don't venture over to this part of the board very often, but that is COOL, Michelle!
I heard a local DJ here saying he had $200 bucks on him! His wife was pissed until she found out he won...and won BIG!

That's great! Congratulations. Your dad must be quite happy, too. Is this the stallion you were considering buying and bringing out here?

Michelle, that's what I was thinking - that you were thinking of bringing your dad's stallion, Marco Bay, out here. My post was ambiguous:) Is he still standing in Florida? I have a friend who raises tb's in Florida and she asked me (when we were talking Kentucky Derby things last evening). I did a quick look, too, on Marco's breeding. Is his dam the mare that you are bringing out here this year? I really didn't get much done yesterday! LOL

Yup, you are right Coyote! Marimascus is the broodmare I wanted more then anything, but this November the whole timing and shipping fell apart, so she and a few others (Marco included) went back down to Florida for the winter. I don't know where Marco is standing this year, but I could find out easily enough for you ;D I am probably not going to get Marimascus this year, but one of her daughters (Marco's half sister) instead.
Marco is HUGE and all stallion, he is a tough horse. I just wasn't sure what I'd do with him, so he stayed with my father. Now, I'm thinking even if I wanted him, there's no way that's happening ;D Did you see his website? He is such an impressive horse!

OK so I did a little searching, and found a few articles on Marco, this one is from The Thoroughbred Times: Marco Bay to remain at Hidden Hill in Florida
Jay Shaw and Peter Hoey have decided to keep Marco Bay, sire of recent Golden Gate Derby winner Buzzards Bay, at Hidden Hill Farm in Ocala, where the 15-year-old son of Copelan stood last year.
Shaw and Hoey had scheduled Marco Bay to stand at Joe Vaughan’s Ballyvaughan Farm in Oxford, Pennsylvania, but they reconsidered, and Marco Bay will stay at Hidden Hill for the same $3,000 fee he stood for last year.
Buzzards Bay is from the sixth crop by Marco Bay while the leading earner by the sire, two-time stakes winner Bay Street Gal, is from his first crop. Marco Bay has sired 25 winners from 33 starters who have earned $1,793,862 through Monday.
Marco Bay won three races, all stakes, and earned $245,510 in 27 career starts. He won the 1993 Tampa Bay Derby and ’93 Sam F. Davis Breeders’ Cup Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs and won the ’94 Kelly Olympic Breeders’ Cup Handicap at Atlantic City Race Course in a course record 1:46.99 for 1 1/8 miles.

I think I did at the time you posted his picture, but I didn't find it last evening when I looked. I just saw his sire and dam's name and recognzed her. I passed along the information in that article to my friend. She's is Florida and is quite a knowlegeable and serious breeder It'll be interesting to watch Buzzard's Bay in the Derby if he runs. Actually, the last horse I "knew" in the Derby was the son of a mare that this friend owns. That was a couple of years ago.
