I just got a workout notification for Count Trial. You may remember him. He was the gorgeous stallion with 4 white socks at Penn National that I very nearly bought. I still hadn't sold Bonnie at that point so I wasn't quite ready and then when I was ready he had been sold. It looks like they are going to keep racing him. What can you tell me about this workout: Count Trial Date: December 2, 2004 Track: PIMLICO Distance: Four Furlongs Time: 49:40 Breezing Track Condition: Fast Surface: Dirt Rank: 1/6 Is that a decent workout? He is a gorgeous horse and he looked really sound. He'd make a great eventer or hunter / jumper stallion. He was really sweet, too

Well, around here they run 6 furlongs in around 1:12 if the track is fast. You can figure on a 10-12 second furlong as being pretty good. Plus, he was the best out of 6 horses that worked that distance today. What they will note in his chart as a "bullet work."
Of course, you have some horses that l0ove to work in the morning and show speed, but will not when they actually race. So, hopefully he will show the same speed in his races.

I got another workout notification on Count Trial and he did a bit better:
Count Trial Your Comment:

I'll be watching to see if he is entered in a race at Pimlico. It is fairly close to me and I've never been there so I wouldn't mind treating myself to a day at the races.

Count Trial raced today and he didn't do very well. He came last. They said he got bumped into the rail, tried to catch up at the turn but then "faltered" at 3 furlongs I hope he is okay. It was an awful day - raining and miserable. Sounds as though he does better running by himself in workouts just as you said, Jen.

Or he didn't like the messy track. Both workouts were on a "fast" track.
