From the Standardbred Canada newsroom. Bomb Rickles DiesJuly 7, 2004 Bomb Rickles, an extremely talented racehorse and one of Western Canada's top stallions has died in a freak accident. While grazing on his Leduc, Alberta farm, the son of No Nukes was attacked by a German-bred jumper who escaped from his holding pen. Donner Bube, a 12-year-old stallion, jumped a five-and-a-half foot fence to get at Bomb Rickles. He delivered a number of forceful kicks to the 20-year-old stallion, eventually breaking one of his femur bones. Bomb Rickles was later euthanized by veterinarians. The pacer was an exceptional racehorse in his day, racing until the age of seven. At four, he took a personal best of 1:52.2 in a time trial at The Red Mile and earned a total of $829,366 over his career. As a stallion, Bomb Rickles sired many top horses, including the likes of Scarlet And Gold p,1:50.3 ($593,680), CB Flight p,1:51.4s ($368,065), Token Hit p,1:53s ($317,309) and Noonday Hardball p,1:51.4s ($305,288) among others. In total, he's sired the winners of nearly $11.7 million, including 31 winners of $100,000 or more. His influence will continue to be felt for years to come with youngsters hitting the track in each of the next two years. Bomb Rickles was purchased for stallion duties in 1992 by The Bomb Rickles Group of Leduc, Alberta. Prior to that, he had been owned by the family of the late George Henderson of Argyle Farms Fame.
