Ive been looking for a light weight western saddle and I think I found one. Its a 17" wintec, black thynsetic and is about 20 lbs, its basicaly brand new and she has the sales reciept on it. Its got a wide tree which I need and shes asking only $170 for it. Do you think thats a good price on a wintec synthetic thats just about new? I did look at some new miller synthetics that I didnt like that ranged from $250 to $300 so it sounds like a good deal right. I do have my ingraved show barrel saddle but I dont really want to use that all the time(its my baby LOL), I want something I can beat on and not worry about but that has a good fit for Tango. I have to let her know today if I want it or not so give me ur thoughts on a wintec brand....

I don't know, Tina, but I would almost bet a 17" seat would be too big for your skinny little butt. I have a 15" western saddle that is just on the verge of being too small for my not-so-skinny tush, and my 16" western saddle is just a bit big - I tend to slip around in it. My english A/P and dressage saddles are both 17" and fit me well. It seems that sizing between western and english doesn't necessarily correspond. Just a thought.

I will only buy a 17" if Im going tobein it, I feel uncomfy in anything smaller. Im thin but have wide hips(4 kids did it LOL) and am tall so anything under a 16 I feel squashed in and a 17 has always felt just right. People always say I should fit a 16 or even a 15 but no way....LOL. Besides I want a bigger saddle on Tango anyhow cause I was useing a 15 in english on her and it just looked so funny. My 16" english fits(looks) her great and its so comfy for me. My barrel saddle is a wide tree 17 and it does fit her really well so this western one should be a good fit to. Yes western and english definately seem to have about an inch or so difference in sizing I think. Im just not sure on the wintec being a synthetic, Ive always liked wintec for the most part but dont know on these newer ones.

You'll love the Wintec - it's such a breeze to clean up, just use soap and water, and not to mention how lightweight they are. My 16" western saddle is a roping saddle and that thing weighs a ton!!

I've always understood that a 15" western is equivalent to a 17"-17.5" english saddle. I have a 15" western that rides like a 14.5" due to it's construction, two 17" English, and one 17.5" English.
I know a lot of trail riders like the synthetic saddles, but I don't have any yet.

You could be right Lisann but Im not sure. I know my barrel saddle is a 16" and my english is a 17" and they both fit me perfect. I do think that its all in the brand name thou, I have had some cheap made saddles that were definately not sized right. I do know there is a definate inch difference in english to western but it could be a 2 inch difference.
My english is a synthetic and so far so good with it, its a miller thou and not a wintec. I definately love how easy it is to clean for sure, just damp rag it off and it looks new again. Since its a black synthetic thou every lil thing shows up on it but I went all black and dark greens on Tango cause it shows off all the black on her legs and face. The lady that owns the wintec is going to bring it over to thebarn so I can try it on Tango and if the fit is good I think i will just go ahead and buy it, if nothing else for the price it wopuld be an extra saddle for hubby to use since he needs a big saddle.
