Due to my husband's losing his job, I may have to let Count go back to New Voacations. The place I have him now, due to their financial woes, won't give me the benefit of the doubt that the situation's temporary and if I could pay them a bit each week then I could keep him! I am so anguished! I have come so far with him! I wish I could find another place but there isn't anything around here! I am crying as I type this! I don't know what to do!!!!!!!!
Thanks for letting me get this off my chest.

Shelby, I'm sorry Its hard for me to keep everyone and all of the horses straight. Tell me more about Count. How long have you had him? What sort of arrangements do you keep him in now etc? Ailments? Just thinking about you....

That sucks!! Is there any place cheaper you could leave him temporarily? Is he sound enough that you could do a full lease so someone else would pay for his keep? (Just thinking aloud here...)
Good luck, I sure hope you find a way to keep him...

Thanks all - you are all so wonderful! I have had Count since June, where he's at now, he has a stall and he gets turnout - he's basically a follower - not aggressive towards people (even Jody now!) and other horses. He had a broken rib, bone chips and a piece of one of his hooves out - but he's in a lot better shape now - he runs, bucks and rolls with the best of them. His weight is so much better too. I adopted him from New Vocations. He's basically a kind horse. His health is good. I have kept up on his vaccinations and had a chiropractor work on him, in fact the chiro liked him. Said he was a nice horse and any aggressive reactions he had or mave have is due to fear and pain, we think he was very badly abused, but couldn't say for sure. I wish there was somewhere here I could keep him temporarily, I know that a lot of what's going on at the place I have him now is financial, family problems, and so on, in fact they have a lot of their Arabs for sale, including mares in foal. Sounds like they are trying to get out of the business. Anyway the owner's adamant about getting the board ON time and although we have know each other years, I also think it's because they don't like Count, cause he's a Thoroughbred. Any ideas folks? The place is in Galloway, I live east Columbus.

Shelby, is there somewhere you can go to do pasture board until your situation changes or even work off part of your board. I really hope that things work out for you.

Oh golly, I'm so sorry, Shelby.. I hope somethign works out. I understand.. my husband hasn't worked since Sept. 5 and we're still waiting on his retirement/disability papers to get processed. If we didnt' have our own land, I'm sure I'd be selling horses...

That is NOT FAIR! I would love to board Count for you while you figure your finances out, but I don't have a single space for even a tiny minihorse. There MUST be a couple places nearer to you that might be less costly. Would New Vocations "board" him in Hilliard for a small fee, until you got a new place and hubby gets a new job? Boy that sucks. And what about Whiskey? If he was a little more sound ( to jump or event) I'd have a couple ideas for pony clubbers to maybe lease him while you wait it out.... but he's a little fragile for those kids to be messing with. They are kinda rough on their horses.

I would just hate that. The good thing is that there are so many board members around your area, so maybe we can network and find something. I bet you can find something temporary. SMay - do any of the pony clubbers you know have their own places? You could also put up a "wanted" ad for boarding at feed stores and such. Heck, Dot or Anna at New Vocations might know someone too. I'll try and send some of my "better boarding situation" mojo your way while I work on my quest for a better stable. Hang in there, darlin'.

Shelby, I am so sorry to hear this. And I know it's so hard to think of solutions when you're sad and scared. Do the places Sue listed seem possible? Maybe some place would let you do partial care boarding--cheaper than full board. There's a place like that here, but it's full and there's a waiting list. Rats. If I hear of anything else, I'll let you know. How steady is he? Could he work as a school horse for a while until your husband gets back to work?

Isn't there any way you could sell your husband and keep Count? No, seriously, I hope you find a way to work things out, just couldn't imagine parting with my boys, think I'd live out of my truck first, though it might be hard to get on the internet that way. :loon:
