 I have been becoming more and more disenchanted wth the barn I board at and I think I have SNAPPED! This is a fairly small place - only about 12 owners, and I have been there since these people started running the place. I am nice. I am tidy. I have rescued their halter stud from being cast,I feed the barn cat, watch out for the other horses, don't complain, use too many shavings, or make unreasonable demands. Really. I swear! I DO have the 3 horses and one stall, and when I bring everyone in to feed, I try to keep my two "extras" out of the way and not in the aisle. There's no other area to place them in, as the owners have their horses in all of the paddocks. And I can't feed them in the pasture, unless I wish to stand there with a lunge whip for the entire time they eat. If I tie them inside, I get looks. So, if there is an empty stall open, I will put Adair and Peanut in with their own two buckets of grain , never leaving them unattended, and take them out as soon as they finish eating. IF they poop or anything while in there, I clean it up. I never use one when the horse/owner might even have a chance of needing it. Does this sound that bad? This has never been a problem, esp since several stalls never get used, except occasionally at night, and we are a very informal group there. I am almost always there at weird hours, when others aren't using the barn. And, the stall I used this evening has NO HORSE right now. The guy is just keeping the stall until his horse gets back in two months, And one of the other boarders has been using it to switch her own horse back and forth in! They KNOW I do this, it's not like I am trying to hide it. (god, I sound defensive, don't I?!) Tonight (once again as I am the only one there) BB (Barn B***ch) clicks in and stops at the stall and stares at me. "Um, did you ASK Bill if you could use his stall?" (trust, me Bill would not care) "No," I replied, feeling suddenly rather dirty and sneaky, " I am uh, just letting them eat in here for a moment" "Well - hmmph!" She stomps on. I left soon after, disgraced. I truly was starting to feel incredibly guilty! They did not say goodbye. Would you believe that this girl has flat out accused me of leaving the gates unlocked, (Nope, not me) as well as leaving the tack room open. (Nope, again!) in the two months. After they threatened to kick out whoever was leaving the gates open, I caught her CHECKING THE LOCKS when I was the only one on the property! She also likes to pull things like (and I do I pay for this service) "Oh, we didn't know if we were supposed to feed Yonkie, since you haven't had her in at night for a while. So we didn't." WOULD THAT FOOD IN FRONT OF HER STALL BE A CLUE, YA THINK?  ?  Oh - and check this out - they are getting married next month and are actually inviting us!  Sorry while I vent and ramble...... arrrrrrgghghghghgh!

The joy of boarding ;D It is alway like that no matter where you go. I have JUdge at a stable because of his foot deal. and I work there spring summer and fall. It is amazing what goes on. The best part is I can usually work Judge when no one else is there. Keep your chin up ;D

Good boarding stables are hard to find. It seems like there is always a problem - stalls not cleaned everyday, not enough food, yucky other boarders, not enough turnout, etc.
I am still enjoying having my own barn (after 13 years of boarding). That reminds me - need to go feed!

Oh Shannon, thank you sooooo much  Here I've been grumbling about the weather and the mess the horses are making in the yard and how I am so tired of doing chores nonstop and I miss having people to ride with..... But YOU just brought back all sorts of horrid memories of boarding H**L!!! I am so very lucky. Thanks for pointing it out. Sorry to hear the barn woes. I found that it really was like that everywhere and you know, how pathetic am I that I can look back to a boarding barn I was at eight years ago and I STILL find myself defending myself from petty little things like that. Next time she snaps at you I say you should just quack and let it roll, water off a duck's back. |

Oooo, gotta love that and of course they invited you to the wedding. They want gifts and to look like they have friends to their families. Sheesh, I left a barn once just cause of that sort of person. Well, it was leave or beat the  out of her. Decided I didn't need the legal hassle, so I left. That woman has driven a lot of boarders out of that place, you'd think the barn owner would cop a clue and kick her out. But she's one of those that's been there forever and knows how to minipulate the poor guy. Doesn't matter now, cause I'm at a much better place anyway. ;D |

...you know, with us having the same brain and all...I can't imagine why you haven't let the little Bee-ahch have it verbally, when she says ignorant stuff like that. If you pay for pasture board for your horses, they HAVE to provide a method for you to feed them for crying out loud. That is pure BS that you can't use a stall MOMENTARILY to feed your little TB and his muley. So next time she opens her flytrap, let her have it. You know how to do it. I'll send you the wording by ESP.

ShannonMK I have the perfect solution for you - buy the house next to me and keep your herd at home! Really you would love Vegas, lots of wonderful weather - and I happen to know a great job going too (with me silly)!!! Really my sweet, this stuff will pass. If the worst of it has only been in the last couple of moths then the barn b*****h's have probably just picked up on the fact that you are feeling low. Its like when predatory animals pick out the sick and injured... and its cowardly too. Give it a little more time (and a few more spring flowers) and YOU"LL be the one with the ability to make THEM feel bad (whether you choose to do so or not).  And Lynne, what do you mean there's no-one to ride with... we're all riding with you!!!! |

I know how you feel! It only takes one barn bi--- to ruin your experience if you let her or him. Many years ago I moved horses home to my backyard. I too missed the companionship of other riders plus their expertise. Sometimes their advice was right on. I am ok with the stable I am now at. They watch my horse closely and notify me if anything looks shaky..Of course I have complaints, too often I can't use certain facilities because they have turned out a horse in the round pen or large ring. I now just go into the office and request the horse be moved so that I can use area. If I was in an area where the weather was nice year round, and I could afford acreage, I would move horse home but then New York can be so nasty in the winter. Good luck with your situation, with 3 horses, it's not easy to find good affordable space.
