SInce Chris isn't here at the moment, I'll refresh you Michelle - Star had that accident last year where some dogs chased the horses and Star got kicked in the face and had a nasty cut on his face. I guess that after it healed, he still has a droopy lip on one side due to some nerve damage from the kick. He may get back his feeling there, Chris says, as the nerves regenerate. That takes a long time though. Other than the lip, he's fine I think!

I must have missed all that! How sad for him! I hope they do regenerate and he's OK.

thanks for asking, Michelle. SMay got the story right.. it happened almost a year ago.. May 13 I think... It was awful.. neighbor's border collie chasing the horses, nipping at Zab's heels. Star was behind the dog and put his nose down to investigate at the very moment that Zab leveled a kick at the dog. I heard the thud when his hoof hit Star. I saw it happen. It was one of those moments when your heart sinks to your shoes. I saw Star pull up and tilt his head sideways and blood came runnign out of his mouth. I was freaking on the inside, but kept it together and got Star up to the vet clinic ASAP..Meanwhile, stupid neighbor woman is over trying to retrieve her dog and wanted to know what happened...grrrrr I've only told them 1000 times to keep the dog at home... Here's what Star's face looked like on the left side BEFORE the accident: Here's what he looked like on day 6 after the accident and lots of vet care...I was taking him to the clinic every day to get his face flushed with antibiotic solution... but there was a hole that went all the way through and his food came out the hole! It was gross... he had to go to the university for surgery. Here's what he looked like after surgery. This is how his lip dangles now.. He's still my good Starman, but it makes me want to cry... I did finally get $1,200 from the neighbors' insurance company to reimburse me for the vet bills, but it took 3 nasty letters from two lawyers to get it...

He's still gorgeous in that last pic, so shiny!!
I'm so sorry, that is unbelievable! Poor Star! So, he can eat and hold the bit OK? I used to show an Eq horse that had a droopy lip, but he would smack them together in between fences. It was rythmical to hear ;D
Why could Zab have gotten the Border Collie instead?! Good thing you were there though, even though it must have really hurt you to see it!

Oh Star is still very gorgeous..... what an ordeal to have to go through. Poor Star.. Two years ago, I had a stupid lady climb through the electric fence with doberman trying to feed my horses...... Some people just don't think!
