Hi, fellow ex-racer fans! I have a retired racing greyhound named Bugs, and also used to ride/retrain ex-racing thoroughbreds...so I'm very excited to have found this forum! It's always nice to find a community of people who love these special animals. I also have a business, Classicollars.com, where I produce and sell handmade "martingale" collars (the type required by greyhounds because of their small heads and necks). My collars are not like anything you'll find in a pet store... Every one is fully wrapped in satin to eliminate rough edges and protect your hound's fur, topped with extravagant trims, and finished with solid nickel-plated steel or brass hardware for safety. I'm especially happy to offer reflective "safety" martingales for nighttime use! My business frequently donates and auctions one-of-a-kind collars with the entire purchase price going to benefit a special-needs greyhound. We also work with adoption agencies in other ways to support the greyhound adoption community. If you have a greyhound, or are going to adopt a retired racer soon, please have a peek at www.classicollars.com and consider a handmade martingale or tag collar for your four-legged friend.

Thank you so much for visiting!
What a gorgeous pair in your avatar photo... Reminds me of a little gray (ok, white...by the time I knew her!) ex-racer from NJ called Pretty Girl who I used to love riding.

Thank you for the compliment on my 2 geldings. The gray is Eagle and the chestnut is Goalie. Both OTTBs, Goalie is 14 and Eagle is 11. Now is that Bugs in your avatar? He looks like a real sweetheart.

Yes, that's Bugs! She models the collars on my site and I use this photoshopped picture, modified to look a little like an oil painting, as my logo. Most of the time she's extremely lazy, despite being a grade-A racer just a year or so ago. :-)

Welcome to exracers. I have two greyhounds, both retired about a year ago though neither were grade A - both graded off. Actually today is our one boy's birthday and next month is his first gotcha day!

Happy birthday to your pup!
You know, I don't think they way they raced necessarily tells you much about how greys will be as pets... Bugs is the LAZIEST dog I've ever had, and I know people who have "track rejects" (as they call 'em) who behave like they're on a pure sugar diet. I bet your graded off boys could run circles around my girl any day. She might not even wake up to notice them running. :-p

One is extremely lazy and the other is always "on" though not as high strung even then as many other breeds. I agree that race records have little to do with their personalities even as far as how strong their prey drive is it seems... we've had a few fosters who didn't care for racing at all but really couldn't resist chasing a cat/squirrel/anything that moved... then we had a girl who retired from injury who didn't even give any small animal a second glance... They are so diffierent once they are in a home. Thanks for Indy's birthday wishes!
