Here it goes...going to try and post a picture of Russell...my exracers. Got him when he was less then a week off the track when I used to volunteer at greyhound rescue. He is 10 years old now...he's lived with me for 7 years. Hard to believe. Oh well..here it goes.... C:\My Documents\My Pictures\Russell.jpg[/img]

Hi MarePower. I've always wanted one, are they difficult? I couldn't do it anytime soon, but I haven't let go of the idea yet and wonder if there's anything I need to know...
Thanks!

Yes, I want more info too! I keep on telling my husband that we have an ex-racehorse, now we need an ex-racedog! I also tell him that if he lets me get a greyhound he can buy and ex-racecar. I have heard conflicting reports about greyhounds. I hear they are sweet, but that they have to be on a leash or in a yard, you can't just let them out. Are they obedient? How long do they live?

My girlfriend has an ex-racer. She's had him 3 or 4 years now. She blames me because I've been talking about getting one. We went to a pet store chain here that invites organizations in to show pets that are available for adoption. The greyhounds were there and the rest is history He's a sweetheart. She also got an Italian Greyhound. She'd like to ring her neck sometimes. She's pretty hyper, while Pokey is so laid back. She regrets not getting another ex-racer

Greyhounds are extremely quiet normally, big couch potato's but boy hoo-whee can the move when they want to, hence the on-leash thing. I have seen a few in the obedience ring so it can be done There coats are really easy care, slicker brush, etc. They do tend to need dentals every few years, something about their teeth are just that way & eye problems that require drops regularly are not uncommon as they age. But they are wonderfully sweet dogs & normally already crate trained when you get to them due to how they are housed at the kennels/tracks you just have to expand that training to the house. Most rescues do require a fenced yard due to the fact that they are a sighthound & love to chase rabbits/squirrels, etc. But you can have a great time lure-coursing with them
