I was making such progress with Porter's lounging and BAM snow. Plus I can start Nate next Friday. So is it OK to ride in snow? Right now I do not have access to an indoor. Whacha ya'll think? Time for me to move to Texas or what?
How do you guys do it?

I LOVE to ride in the snow! As long as its not the really wet slick-slidy snow and the snowballs aren't forming in the feet (seems to happen only on those of mine that have shoes!) then riding in the snow is wonderful!! I prefer bareback at those times. Keeps us nice and toasty

If you have a really nice snow cover, riding in it is like riding on a cloud!!!

You can buy the house next to Claire's. Just remember, you have to get lawn chairs. :hahaha:

Oh, I got lawn chairs, and beer. But I don't have a coyboy hat or boots. Can I still come?

Try greasing them thoroughly before you set out. We use Vaseline. Doesn't stop it - but puts off the evil moment. I always carry a hoofpick when it's icy.

I use to LOVE riding in the snow. I became a wimp, not because of the snow, but because of the cold. The darn indoor spoils me in the winter.

Me too LynnC. DArn indoors turned me into a happy slightly warmer wimp. :hahaha:
Vasaline or Pam or some people still prefer butter, figure it's healthier somehow. If the horse is barefoot, they generally don't snowball as bad or at all, depending on the snow.
Took Flynn riding in the snow once and got to an icey patch of trail, which he navigated carefully and well. A mountain biker came by at that time and wiped out about 7 times on the ice. Tooo funny. Kept falling and kept getting back on the bike. :loon: You'd think he would have figured out that it might be a good section to walk through. :hahaha:

isn't sticky (otherwise the horse is on high heels after 5 mn) and there's NO ice underneath...a barefoot Ay-rab I was riding once fell on a patch of snow-covered ice with me. Ugh. No harm done, but it says a lot for snowpads and winter shoes... I used to like my Morgan mare in the snow a lot. Great workout for her.

We used to ride in the fluffy snow when I was younger-just hop on bareback. But none of my horses had shoes then and the snow didn't pack. You can also spray on Pam to grease them up also. The only kind of snow we seem to get around here is the icy type-no fun to ride in.
