Hope it's nothing major! Tell Cypress Madeline knows how she feels! The first time was a broken splint-the second was the attack from the ground bees-who would've thought a bee sting could make a horse's leg swell up for 4 days. Hopefully it's just an itty bitty cut you can't see but wreaks havoc on TBs and sensitive hide!

She obviously feels better this morning, though the leg looks about the same. I went out about the time they were turning other horses out and she was fussy about being left behind. I took her outside to walk a bit and see how she moves. She moves fine. Dragged me down the lane and back and was actually overstriding on both sides. SHe'll stay in again today. I'll take her out for walks and she's in one of the bigger stalls, so she can move about in there, too.
I did wrap her leg last night--quilt wrap and polo strip. That seemed good for the lower leg, but I wish I had one of those hock wraps, too. Maybe I try to make one. I have all kinds of odds and ends in my sewing kit!
Good thoughts are helping and still very welcome! Teddy's story is an inspiration. And I'll tell Cypress her Hollywood beau still loffs her, too, Bara!

I hope things turn out OK. Check very, very, very closely for a puncture....they can be tiny and seal themselves back up so that you can hardly find them. That will cause a lot of pain and swelling.

I will look carefully at the leg, Hokie and SK. I know you are right about these tiny injuries. It's hard to see ANYthing on a black, hairy leg, especially through bifocals. Sigh.
And Lynne, I am not a bit fancy. And how's this for "trash"tolerance. My youngest daughter's boyfriend is actually a trash collector in lives in a neighborhood known as Little Kentucky. I adore him! LOL

The Teddy story is in an earlier post on this thread by SMAY, titled "Oh Crap," or somthing along those lines. The plot is basically this: Teddy had a leg like this and he got well. The end. I love that story!

..just two weeks ago or so...it's freshi n my mind. These TBs will swell up like you don't believe. TEddy got this HUGE hemotoma hanging down on his chest last winter which I complained about avidly in this board...that went away in about four days. He got THAT from a PoNee kick in the chest I think. First thing I do EVERYDAY when I bring mine in, is run up and down their legs with my eyes. I'm getting like GOOD at noticing even the tiniest swelling, or a speck of blood, or even a smear of blood.... Can see it from a mile away. Couple of days ago, I spotted blood SMEARS on the pony's white fur on his back...well, they weren't from the pony, so I went hunting for someone else with a boo boo that was bleeding and getting wiped ON the pony. FOund it.. Cut on Winny's lip. He was trying to wipe it off on a nice clean white pony.

Yup, thats so true about the smallest of booboos and these TBs just OVER-REACT Its just attention seeking! Remember when Jasper got clipped by a nail when being shod and it swelled up like goodness knows and he had to have all kinds of 'spensive stuff, and I had to stick him with penecillin twice a day yada yada blah blah. I still remind him what a 'girl' he was . Actually, they always impress me with their heart, the body may be weak, but they never stop TEXT, those TBs. Jasper wants to know if Cypress has a picture he can put on his stable wall next to the onehe has of Rita. I think he's starting to get into those 'teenage' babe obsessed years :hahaha:

Funny how your attention gets focused instantly when this stuff happens.
I'm taking everybody's advice--even tossed a few black oil sunflower seeds in her hot mash this afternoon! She gobbled it up.
Little change in the leg, but I have been able to feel it very carefully. Imagine an all-around swelling starting about the ankle and running up the leg. On the back of the leg, just below the hock (in the area of the "seat of curb") there's some tenderness and a patch of swelling that is slightly more raised than the rest of the leg. And, inside, in a little pocket of the joint, there's fluid. That's not sore at all, and I'm thinking it is just a likely place for fluid to build up. But the back of the leg is tender. I am telling myself she could have been kicked or bumped there, even though I do not see any kick marks. Bruising sounds preferable to ligament trouble. I hope that's all it is. She has had some deep bone bruising in that leg before. Poor old leg.
I told Cypress about her admirers in the US and abroad. She tries to look aloof, but I could tell she was flattered. When the dominant gelding here put his nose over the fence to flirt with her, she squealed and told him he's not the ONLY fella around. Ahh. The equine ego.

It looks like she hyperextended her hock. OUCH She got some Dex and maybe an antibiotic and a bunch of stuff to give her the next few days. I was too busy writing "One hundred and six and 00/00 dollars" on the check to take in all the pharmaceutical details. But we think she'll be fine. Poor dolly.

Is she very lame on it? But the vet is optimistic, right? A little rest will do the trick? I hope so!!

Just plant her in the nearest snow drift, that'll bring the swelling out. LOL Seriously, hope she's fine and mends fast.

Hi Guys! Its me Minivicky! Now I am Radarslove cause that is my true handle! Wow, Ad, Smay, Zenrider! Its just like home! I sure have missed chatting with you guys. I need updates! As for me well lets see its been a while, I have been riding Radar, although not for the last few months because of the cold, snow and ice, and lack of indoor areana, ;D But last fall he and I were riding around the yard and hay fields. I did get a side pull bridle for him as he was tossing his head with the bit in his mouth, I tried differant bits, checked his teeth, and I think its just that he doesn't want that cold steel in there! I could ride him with halter and lead ropes fine, no head tossing, so I went and got a side pull, but then of course the weather took a turn for the worse and I haven't had a chance to try it on him yet. I am so looking forward to spring when I can dust off the saddle and get riding again. And yesterday's and todays temps aren't helping, Temps in the mid 30's Heat wave compared to the below 0 temps we have been having, but just the right temp to melt and freeze everything over so we have ice, I don't think I will try riding on that! So I know about Cypress's leg, what about everybody else? Smay how are things going with Rita? Well I hope, and Zenrider, how are things going with your boys, are they still in the same barn or do you have them in differant barns again? Oh stories of Teddy, I miss them too! Well I need to get ready for work, too much to do and not enough time to do it! But you can bet that I have saved this place and will be back! Take care and I miss you guys!

Well, hello MiniV, um RadarsLove, Good to see you. See, your like most of us remember horses names, but not their owners. Anyway, Niaru had Rita, who recently suffered a freak accident, in which she broke her leg, and she is no longer with us. It was very sad, but now we are, ummm, helping :hahaha: Niaru look for another horse. As for my boys, if you look at the post (Indoor Pics, just cause I can.) You can get an idea of how my boys are doing. ;D
