In 4-H showmanship, we used a bridle for english and a halter for western.

BriscoMommy--Congratulations on your decision to leave the clippers in the box. ;D Those sensory hairs are important to the horse--as are the hairs in their ears. But you already know this. Trimming off the excess as SMay suggested is a very fair compromise. It would look really cool if you would teach him to pivot off his hind feet when you make a turn. Doing that will require him to shift his weight back over his hind end. Moving that weight back will also allow him to move off very smartly, in balance, at either the walk or the trot. Horses hear better than show judges. Teaching him the voice commands "walk" and "trot" (or your own secret equivalents) could make your presentation smoother and more polished. Wish we could see the video!!! Linda (who thinks that dark bays/brown horses are much more beautiful than smushed bananas ) Hey--SMay--do you want to know how to stop Winnie from passing you at the trot??? Pain-free, simple, safe, and all that good stuff? If you do, start a new thread and I will share the secrets I have learned. :brian:
