So busy at work I cannot get to my desk! Meanwhile, the pile grows! I can't stand this. Lunch is over, so I'll go back in with a shovel!

I don't believe you.
Are you moving work stations?

It's insane. We have been so busy and so understaffed, and that's on top of a job I can't fit into the time allowed already! In the picture above, you can't really see the 6-foot tall pink paper-mache hippo doing a handstand on a bicycle. That's her pink and purple tutu you just see peeking out just to the left of my desk and around the corner. I finally took her down from her display and sent her to the day care center today. She wouldn't fit in my car, so one of the clerks carried her on his head and walked her two blocks through town to deliver her. I bet none of you have such things cluttering up your office! Here's a proper photo of the tiny dancer:

Ann, dear, I don't think a 6ft hippo qualifies as a 'tiny dancer'. Your irony is not lost ... ;D

Another day (7:30-6:15) when I spent barely any time at my desk. And what should appear this afternoon but the fun-loving guy from publicity with a big bag of yo-yos. For me. Of course. The barricade between me and normal people continues to grow.

No, but I have boxes full of light-up bouncing balls, compass key rings, coupons for ice cream and best of all...corks from wine bottles! Yes. I am doing a craft program with teens and I sent out an all users email asking for corks. I tell you, when I ask for paper towel tubes, I never get this kind of response. Librarians must drink wine a lot more than they wash windows.
Disclosure: I am drinking a glass of Mouton Cadet Bordeaux at this very moment. It's all for a good cause.

Claire, I approve of Mouton Cadet. But you are the final arbiter.

What a funny thread. I'm with Brooks. I never thought you would be capable of such a horrific desk. I shall soon post a picture of my lovely desk. You will all be jealous.

I agree with the others, Ann, you are just full of surprises! Good luck with the mess (I can relate...lol) I love the Ballerinippo! Don't send her away. Keep her!
Bara, I am a traitor to my country because I don't care for Bordeaux wines (Cabernet Sauvignon / Merlot). Give me a Côtes-du-Rhône (or or anything Grenache+Petite Syrah etc) or a vin de Loire or de Bourgogne / Jura any day!
Shall we all post pictures of our desks? Mine will certainly not make anyone jealous, haha!

Okay, all you surprised friends, I will now speak in my own defense! I do not like messy desks! I would LOVE to spend the day sorting, pitching, filing tidying. I cannot get away from the public service desk or program presentations or troubleshooting computers and printers or dealing with bothered patrons. As soon as I turn my back, my colleagues back up large trucks and unload "stuff" into my space. Because I am the Only One who can do it?? No. I say No. Did you hear me saying NO!!?? Maybe the sound doesn't carry over the wall of "stuff" surrounding my desk.
Sigh. I'm at home having lunch right now. I can't blame my coworkers for the mess here. In this house, it's all Bruce's doing!

I like the idea of a desk thread. Are we allowed to tidy up before taking the photograph.....?
Oh, ok. (grumble)
