One of the old retirees at my barn passed away yesterday afternoon. He was found in the morning in a full body sweat. Vet came down, his heart rate was elevated, the vet didn't think he would make it, but wanted to give his owner time to think about the next step.
He lay down in his stall, while his owner held his head in her arms, and we think his heart gave out from the strain. She said it was very peaceful. He is now at rest with no pain.
A very sad day. I don't want to go down and see his stall empty.

That's very sad. Sorry the old gentleman had to be in any discomfort but it sounds like he went pretty quickly at the end.
