If you want to call it that. Started riding Bones this weekend, although the ring is still a swamp. He's had most of Nov/Dec/Jan off (the ring was bad and he got lymphingitis), but we had a sunny weekend and I thought "well, might as well get going again".
We only walked in the ring, circles and circles and circles, and figure 8's and serpentines, leg yields, and reaching into the bit. He was a total gem, I think he was a bit confused- "you want me to what?"... but it was nice to get back on him. He really likes to stretch his neck down after a ride and stretch his back.
Have to get that topline back and get him nice and fit for his move in May.
I have missed riding!

Spring? Spring? Where? lol
I'm glad you're back in the saddle! We still have lots and lots of snow on the ground here, but it's not fresh snow anymore, not the dreamy fluffy kind we love to play in. So it's walk-trot for us too, with Charm mostly trying to stay upright! She is being good, nice and careful. When I asked for canter (I have to time it right, only a few strides possible on good footing) she SQUEALED and jumped into it. Then came back to a walk on her own at the icy corner. lol

It's that time of year! We've started back into work too, we keep getting waves of freezing cold weather, and waves of 50+ degree weather, its infuriating!

It was 4° here this morning with 20 mph winds. Ground is frozen harder than a rock. Not exactly spring here yet.

Sorry to rub it in, but usually it's raining and raining and raining here until JUNE!!! I have to take advantage of it. Today I got a text message and picture sent from one of the girl's at the barn, Bones was licking her horse like a lollipop. He is one of a kind.

Yesterday was springlike (I grilled some brats), today not-so-much-so. It's 14*F here today and 79*F and sunny where I would be if I'd done my usual Florida trip. What was I thinking?

Why AREN'T you in Florida, Zen?
It was 40 F today. I rode Charm bareback, with some "loose" padding for comfort (no girth). It was interesting trying to stay centered (i.e, NOT lose the pads) when trotting from bare but frozen ground, to deep snow, to frozen snow...good for my core muscles! I have to do it more often.

Why AREN'T you in Florida, Zen? I'm really starting to wonder myself, meaning I've barely started the projects I intended. At least I've started? On the other hand looking at the possibilities for next weeks weather, the drive up may have been reminiscent of last years dodging tornadoes in Tennessee. Will see, if it is, I may have picked the right year not to go down. Thought I'd add, I have in the plans to try to get out to the Tetons and Yellowstone, with a couple of side trips this summer, so there is still an adventure planned. Anyway, don't want to hi-jack this thread, back to subject. Maybe next week I'll get in the saddle.
