Big Tee - where do you send your hay in for analysis?
We get ours from several different sources, but I would still like to get it tested.

About all I'm going to add is, what color is his water bucket. Flynn would only drink out of a red bucket if that's all there was. He prefered greens and blues, but would drink OK out of black buckets also. Otherwise, give it a good scrub from time to time to keep it smelling fresh. Some horses are more particular to these things then others. Ask me how I know.

Basil, who is about 16.1 and around 1200 lbs., is getting 9 lbs. of TC senior plus free choice second cut orchard grass to keep his weight up while foxhunting. Vie, who is an un-raced, 7 yr. old TB, gets 1 lb. of TC ration balancer plus a handful of TC senior a day! He is doing light flat work and hacking. I'm sure I'll need to increase his feed a bit when he hunts next season but I doubt he will ever need the calories I stuff into Basil. Don't feel bad; it takes some time to figure all of this stuff out! Some just need those extra calories. And btw, I loove TC senior for all ages. Very low NSC and high in fat and calories. My sister even feeds it to her youngish TB mare. Basil will definitely wig out on the wrong feed stuff; I had to cut out all alfalfa this winter. I did NOT need a horse who thought he was getting ready to run the Hunt Cup! But on the TC senior and orchard, I have a sane hunt horse.

Hay hay hay! I was at an event farm that was penny pinching thier hay supply, each horse only 6 flakes a day. My horse was then on 9 quarts of Triple crown a day. yikes right. I moved him in October. He is on free choice hay and a half qt twice a day. big difference and he is uber fat, doubled in size. Good luck. I have been feeding timothy and second cutting grass hay.

Sadly, hay is a problem. He's been getting 30+lb a day, its helping. Next month he goes back out on a roundbale, really nervous about that. I know he'll be on it 23/7, but how much does a horse really eat off a round bale? The quality is less than the hay he's getting from the bales now....eeek

Don't let all round bales fool ya honey. I've seen some that are so soft inside and green.

Well it's been hit and miss on round bales at our barn, unfortunately due to the drought they try to get the best they can but sometimes its total crap. Other times its gorgeous.
