We have been feeding Buckeye grow and win added to my horses regular feed(the scoop they give looks like a coffee mug) he gets it 3 times a day plus 3 qts of his regular food. Does anyone feed just the buckeye to a tb fairly new off the track(less then 6 mos) and in what quantity? I am concerned in feeding more then just alittle bit because it is pelleted and it takes so much more water to digest pellets. (do not get me wrong he gets as much water as he wants, I fear he won't drink the amount he needs, therefore colicing.) There are several warmbloods at my farm that are getting just the buckeye, though they do not eat much. but warmbloods and tb's are so different. Second Question: does anyone feed EQ8? for gut health? www.buckeyenutrition.com/solutions.aspx

I feed Buckeye Ultimate Finish as a fat supplement. By the way...Boy get's one pound a day of the UF. But I have him on 6lbs a day of Triple Crown Senior which is already high in fat and very low in NSC's (11% I believe). What's his regular feed and how much in pounds does he get a day?
Are you feeding it to add weight?? If you are, you might want to try the Ultimate Finish in addition to a low cab/low starch feed. It will give him a boost in calories without making him hyper.

Gro n win is a ration balancer which is probably why the easy keeping warmbloods get it; and they probably only get the recommended 1-1.5 lbs. of it at that.
I used to feed Buckeye Trifecta and loved it but most of our local feed stores stopped carrying most Buckeye products due to some sort of availability problem However, I can still get Ultimate Finish. And funny enough, I feed almost exactly what BHK does: Basil gets between 6-8 lbs. of TC Senior and between 0.5-1 lb. UF /day depending on time of year.

The only horses I ever fed grown N Win to were growing babies. The Ultimate Finish is not the same product that it was 5 years ago. The original developer of the product left Buckeye and started up with Progressive. He took his formula and made Progressive "Envision." Buckeye changed his ingredients and were less consistent with them. The charged more even though the product was not as high of quality as it had originally been. So he left....Envision is basically what he developed initially with Buckeye.

Interesting. Hmm. I used to feed Buckeye products, same as Jen but I could no longer get them locally, so I had to switch to Purina products. I finally like the combination I have and that's to feed Ultium to the hard keepers, and Wellsolve to the carb intolerant bunch or the fatties. Purina has a weight additive product called Amplify, which is a high fat nugget (30%) designed to be fed up to one pound a day. Amplify is in Ultium, and also added to the new Strategy Healthy Edge feed, which I also like as it's not as expensive as Ultium. Neither the Ultium or the Strategy HE feeds make my famously hyper TB any more hyper than usual. He's actually quite calm on both feeds.

Yes, Grown N Win is high protein which will help muscle development. Protein aides in putting muscle on which most people think makes horses "hot." That is a common misconception. You just need to be sure that you are not feeding too many empty calories...if he can't burn them off with work, then he could become hot. Progressive also has a "topline" supplement that you add to feed. I've seen many horses do well on that as well.

I am going to check that Ultimate finish one. Grow and win has 32% protein! I am glad you said that about the muscle building, I was worried i was making a monster. He is a very quiet horse usually.

You can add some water to the pellets when you feed them. I've only done this for a dehydrated horse, but I've seen that it can be done.

I have several Tb's and the easy keepers on the Triple Crown 30% which is a similar product (ration balancer). These are easy keepers that only eat 1-2lbs of this a day and hay and look amazing.
Most of the Tb's eat TC senior or a TC senior and TC 30% mix.
I do think the ration balancer makes a difference in muscle development but so does alfalfa and proper amounts of quality concentrates like TC senior.
