By Sigrid Undset... has anyone read this? I've just started it- I picked up the first of the shorter split up version, not the one massive one...

Never heard of it. That is a nordic name? Where is the book set?

ooh, that looks very appealing. I like historical fiction with strong women protagonists and lots of period detail. This looks like just the thing, plus I don't know a thing about Norway in that era. I'll look for it.

It is pretty good, although the beginning is really slow. Combined with the difficult language/syntax makes it hard to get in to, but I'm enjoying it now.. I'm about 150 pages into "The Bridal Wreath"

Finished the first one- it definitely picked up as it went on. I think I'm going to go get the second part next week!
I'd recommend it if you are into historical fiction.

That is one of my favourite books. I still have it afer two floods and a fire. I'm going out to search through the boxes to find it.
Fabulous book, Samantha!

Bara- do you have the one book or do you have the split up version? I keep meaning to go to the library and get the 2nd one...

It's all three :
The Garland Mistress of Husaby The Cross
Thanks, so much, for reminding me about it - and what a coincidence that it was top of first box I opened! My copy has been through so much, that I don't know whether it will survive a re-reading.... My copy is dated 1980. She received the Nobel prize in 1948.
I remember, at the time, sending a copy to my SIL, Christina, whose maiden name was Scandinavian.
It's a wonderful saga, and I can't wait to re-read it. Thanks very much!

I am reading The Wreath right now. Interesting. I keep thinking that everything would be so much easier for the characters if the catholic Church didn't have such power...lol

I'm only just starting it again, Samantha. Did you find the other books?
How did you get on with it, Niaru?

I haven't started the other books yet. I took a break and read some more Young Adult series that a friend of mine recommended. I will get the others when I get back from vacation in a week.. I'm looking forward to seeing their relationship progress

I found it very interesting. Frustrating at times. I knew nothing at all about that country's history and I enjoyed reading about it, plus the complicated relationships between kristin and Erlend, Kristin and Simon, etc., and Everyone with God, was engrossing. I got a bit lost at times with all the names SuchandSuch-sdatter, ThisandthisSon, etc. But all in all, I liked it. Thanks for the recommandation Sam and Bara!
