Some here will know that I'm a 'white African' (Ann does, for sure!) I wasn't brought up in Kenya, but a few hundred miles south.
However, this story is amazing, because it is true. Corinne was a successful Swiss business woman who went on holiday to Kenya. She fell in love with a Masai warrior, Lketinga. So she left everything behind and moved into his mud hut.
I don't particularly LIKE her, in the book. But gosh I admire her. She's equal parts niaive, clever, stupid, strong and blinkered. But gosh, she did what I don't think many of us could do. She tried to straddle the culture line. And so did he.
They've made a movie of it, now. In the movie, she is Carola and he is Llemalion.
