I'm trying to finish the one I'm reading, before starting it. But I keep 'dipping'.
Judging by the prologue, it focusses (or starts) in 1978. I left in 1975, but I can guess there will be resonances. Looking at her maps, she is from much further North than I am. Those farming areas had the worst of the attacks. ...
Thank you for finding her.

Oh! Just posted this (below) then considered you hadn't even started the book yet. Well, no problem, there's not a hint below that you wouldn't expect anyway. I just finished the other day. As I read her story, I kept wondering what kept her parents there during such a dangerous time. But it was their home, and their family had been there for generations. Because I've moved around so much in my life (though not in the past 20 years, admittedly) I know I'd have been the sort to up stakes and fly. So I'm always fascinated with the tenacious people, like her father, for whom this was Home, no matter what. But how could he have taken his family to a place where there had already been such horror?

LOL! Don't worry, no spoilers, I know how it ends! I was there.
As Gladys Kravitz once said to Abner in Bewitched : "Abner! It's about the Civil War. You KNOW how it ends. The North won."
