I don't think it's a book, but I really like the movie! The little girl who plays in it is just amazing. And that actor, whoever he is, is cuuute!
MTA I should add that it really is not a kid's movie...!!

Ooh, that does look fascinating. Will see if I can find the DVD.
New Year's Day, I watched 'The Golden Compass'. Remember the controversy when we talked about the book on here?
Some friends of mine saw the movie when it first came out and said it was disappointing compared to the book(s). I don't agree, I thought it was beautifully done. I'd forgotten it was a trilogy, and was mightily disappointed when it ended (I thought) part-way through. So I hope they film the other two books.
Reason for saying that is that I thought 'The Fall' looks like a similar 'off-the-wall' fantasy, with similar production values.
Thanks for the recommendation!

I liked the Golden Compass movie. I saw it a few years after reading the book so couldn't really compare the fine details. I like it when Nicole Kidman plays cold, wicked women. She's a natural, lol! I hope they film the other 2 books, too.
As a (horsey) aside, in The Fall, they use horses that have very peculiar ears...maybe some Oriental breed (they don't really look like Arabians)? They're very narrow, greyhound-like horses, with ears that point up and nearly touch themselves. It adds to the stylized, poetic nature of the film.

Looks good! I just requested it. I hadn't even noticed that we have it at the library. It must be checked out constantly. My turn! PS Niaru, the preview makes me think of another film I liked, Secondhand Lions, with Michael Caine and Robert Duval. They are marvelous old characters who also tell fantastic stories to a child. Good stuff. Here's that movie's trailer: www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi2609250585/

Okay, we watched The Fall last night. Beautiful! I may watch it again sometime so I can pay closer attention to all the splendid visuals, including those horses. The little girl stole the show, of course. And I cannot stop humming Beethoven's third symphony today. I love it, and you heard it at the beginning and end of the movie. Maybe other places, too. Well, I've been hearing it everywhere all day today! Thanks for the tip.

I haven't found it on Amazon yet. Drat. I ordered Second Hand Lions, but must have ticked the wrong box, because I got a video instead of a DVD. Duh.
So still haven't seen it, but it has gone to a good home.
Sigh. Trying again for both.
Can't believe Michael Caine as a good ole boy! Is his accent convincing?
On which subject, I have to say that Vera whasserface plays a superb English accent in 'Striped Pyjamas'. The other American actress who springs to mind is Renee Zwell-wotsit, who played Bridget Jones. She never put a syllable wrong! But I try to watch everything she does, she's just terrific.
And as for our lot trying to speak American ... well, shudder. That's why I ask about Michael Caine.
The little girl in 'The Fall' - does anyone know what nationality she is? She has an arresting accent.

I loved Renée Whatshername in Cold Mountain. She was really good! I don't know where the little girl is from, I thought Mexican but I think in the movie she's supposed to be Polish (I think!)

Bara, you'll have to ignore accents in Secondhand Lions! Caine doesn't even pretend to sound like a Yank. Or if he is pretending, he fails completely. But since the plot is farfetched, just go with it.

LOL! Suspected as much, he's actually a rough South London boy.
I shall suspend belief - or disbelief, as it may be.
