Blech lol. Well, for now I'll try to decrease his stress. He's on Ugard and Calm & Cool. I'm kind of hoping spring will solve some of my problems with pasture access, warmer weather, and more time outside. If he starts acting up again I'll try the Maalox.

Ulcers?

I assume my guy has ulcers. He is on a probiotic and Gastra FX by Omega Alpha. He has shown improvement. I moved him to a new barn in December which he is happier at but he goes without hay while turned out (at least 6 hours) every day and is starting to get grumpy again. My question is do they always show a decreased appetite? He is girthy, won't go forward, kicks, bucks, swishes his tail and grinds his teeth but he will eat as much of anything as you will give him and is so thick that people don't believe he is a TB. He is super smart and I have actually wondered if he has made the connection between eating and feeling better. My BM thinks I baby him and this is all behavioral (hence the refusal to feed less hay more frequently).

It could be ulcers, there isn't always a decreased appetite. But it could also be back issues and/or teeth issues. My mare had those same symptoms, and they persisted even after ulcer treatment. They finally went away when we had a good chiropractor out to work on her a few times. I'd try the Maalox to see if it improves his behavior If not, you might think about a good dentist and/or chiro. I emphasize "good" because I had both work on my mare with no improvement. I eventually found dedicated specialists for each and did see a lot of improvement.

I've heard of people feeding Tums to their horse also as a trial.
