CO Q-10 as maryann said is important in heart health. When taking a statin drug the bodys natural production of CO Q-10 is inhibited so that's why supplementation is important. Not many MD's agree with supplementation period, so if you find a MD that believes in both western and alternative med terrific! I am one who believes in both western and alternative. There is a time and place for each one. In teachs' case I would not hesitate to take a statin with levels that high and with the family history given as described. I have always told patients to use your judgement and to do research before you make any type of decision (which it sounds like you are) have good communication with your doctor and stay on top of your healthcare like you are. I am not saying one way or the other as to what I think you should do I just throwing some info out there for you.
