Me too, Sarafina. I even use salad (or dessert) plates instead of those huge "regular" plates.
Also, I just don't buy junk food, or soda, so no temptation. My 11 yo loves lettuce leaves or baby carrots for a snack. And too bad if my kids' friends are dismayed when they open our fridge, lol!

I heard that the most successful diets are the ones that allow you to have 'free' days, like one or two ( not 4 or 5). My husband does that and it seems to work, he does it where his weekends are free, and during the week he eats all the healthy stuff and portions his meals. Can you tell I'm not much of a dieter.

Technically the diet I'm on allows one "free" day. For me I found following my diet daily, but allowing one small treat a day helps. Either a cookie, or a handful of peanut m&ms etc.

I do like mom2flash. I eat small portions, graze several times a day. I make my own muffins for a mid-morning snack, so I'm not buying a supermarket confection or a donut. I always eat breakfast too. But I don't overeat, I have small portions. IN the summer we only have meat with supper on weekends and then maybe once a week - it's veggies and rice or pasta every other night. I have 1/2 cup oat cereal and milk before bedtime too. Lunch is usually yogurt and cheese, or oatmeal with dried fruit. My hubby wants fat-free or nearly, so most everything I make has little or no butter or oil in it.

forgot to say, cut out the sugar! I don't use the stuff. I used to drink one soda a day, everyday with lunch, and when I stopped doing that I lost 2 or 3 lbs in a couple weeks. My treat is 4 small squares of dark chocolate after supper every night.

You can also substitute applesauce for oil in recipes. I think it's 1/3 cup applesauce for 1/4-1/3 cup oil. I just buy the little snack packs of applesauce and keep them in the cabinet. You'll taste the difference abit if you eat the batter, but not so much after it's cooked =)

I did a lot of little things, like no more mayo on my sandwhiches, then no more cheese, then stuff like only light salad dressing, etc. I stopped drinking regular soda, avoided fried stuff, etc. I need to get back to it, I've gained a bit of weight! Yikes!

I put the scale in front of the frig door. You think twice about what you are about to eat.

Sue, you definitely win for most creative. That's something I need to do. I don't think my parents would appreciate it though.

I am convinced that a few glasses of Merlot or Pinot Noir a week are very good diet helpers.

When you are having a really bad sugar/sweets craving, eat a dill pickle spear. You can find them with zero carbs and the super zesty kosher dills just seem to hit the spot and take away the craving. I have lost 42 lbs since July 1 and I think this trick saved me a few times from formerly "uncontrollable" urges.
